Basic shapes are used in a series of still lifes; they will begin with a few shapes and grow into more complicated compositions. This class will strengthen your drawing abilities while focusing on watercolors. All levels are welcome.

 | A Four day class – Oct 29th, Nov 5th,12th and 19th.Let’s make an authentic traditional Japanese Kimono Jacket! Kimono is a general term and it means “things to wear” in Japanese. Student will make a short jacket, called “Haori”.Kimonos are flexible in size. Students will be provided a simple pattern, then cut fabric, sew pieces together by sewing machine and hand stitching. No lining. It will be intensive, short cut in processes, with much information! Slides (e.g. History of Kimonos) will be shown for your inspiration. |

 | This class is less intimidating to the student who wishes to learn the basics of perspective without the mathematical concepts. It is all free-hand drawing with a little help. In a short and easily understood introduction beginning each session, students will learn the history and theory of perspective through the use of slides that cover the history of perspective in art from the beginning, through Renaissance and on to contemporary art. Students will draw from actual props, and interior and exterior space. They will learn why line, value, and color play a significant role in depicting the illusion of space and things in space. Finished silk pieces can be used for fashion, fine art and interior design. Students will be exposed to a variety of silk painting techniques including gutta resist and wax resist processes. We will also discuss many different approaches to design and imagery throughout the semester. |

 | Beginning with a historical and contemporary look at portraits, this class will examine ideas of composition, context and subject. Shooting inside and outside of class we will cover camera settings, flash and lighting set-ups to produce great portraits. We will also use basic retouching skills in Photoshop to enhance our images. Students should be comfortable with their digital camera and have a basic knowledge of computers (PC platform). Includes $20 Material fee.
A digital SLR or camera with aperture and shutter speed control is recommended.

 | In this painting class, students will begin with observation of natural objects – shells, leaves, trees, flowers, fruit etc. Instruction will facilitate a move from initial observational work into the development and style of each student's personal sense of abstraction. Students will examine the work of various artists as they charted their course toward abstraction, and their methods- Morandi, Mondrian, Picasso, to name a few. Some classwork may be done outside, weather permitting. Either oil or acrylic paint is acceptable. |

 | A Six Weeks Class/ Workshop Starting Oct 24.
Explore the hidden creativity inside yourself with experimental exercises and new media including water soluble crayons, pencils and metallic. We will also use cut-outs, stencils, textures, carvings, and rubber stamps with a variety of watercolor, handmade and exotic papers. We will also discuss drawing techniques and value studies working from flowers, photos and magazine pictures. |

 | This class for metalsmithing and jewelry students is for those who would like to experiment with new ideas and techniques, specifically pushing their designs and forms further into three dimensions. Hollow construction, mixed media techniques, patinas for silver, copper and bronze as well as other surface and forming techniques will be incorporated. Demonstrations will include fold forming, chasing-repousse’, raising, sinking, and other techniques. Experience recommended. Includes $20 Material fee. |

Sawing, soldering, finishing, stone setting, forming, construction and color on metal techniques will be addressed.
