This Summer, give your kids the chance to explore the exciting world of
CREATIVITY, ART, and FUN at The Art Center-Highland Park!
Through a wide range of mixed media activities your child will explore, imagine and create through ART! 
Camps are offered in First 4, Second 4, 6 or 8 week sessions.  New projects each session!



TAC's 2010 Summer Art Camp runs from the week of June 21st through the week of August 14th.
Separate sessions are available for all age groups.
Focused personal attention is given to each budding artist, so class sizes are limited.
Older campers have the opportunity to partake in more complex projects.

All supplies and materials are included in the enrollment fee.

Creative Kids Morning Pre-Camp
Ages 4-6

Children, ages 4 – 6 will explore, while playing and working with paint, clay, collage and crafts. They will discover art through storytelling and games. Enhancing your child’s imagination, each day will include a different theme, while encouraging personal expression.

The Joy of Creativity® Summer Art Camp - New!
Ages 4 - 6

Join us this summer for a special preschool and Kindergarten Art Program – new to TAC.
Students will enjoy a new art project and story everyday!  In this Mixed-Media class campers will
use watercolors, oil pastels, tempera paints, collage and more!   Facilitated by professional artist
and certified teacher Carole Pearlman.

Morning Arts and Crafts Creativity Zone
Ages  6-8  and  9-11

This is a one of a kind opportunity for children from ages 6-8 and 9-11 to realize their creative potential in a non-competitive atmosphere. Campers will produce unique and original works of art using various materials/ mediums, through drawing, painting, mosaics, collage and crafts.  Including many creative, imaginative and fun indoor and outdoor activities.  With an emphasis on creating at least 1-2 “green projects” per session.  Different projects each session.

Ceramic Art Camp
Ages  7 - 9  and  10 - 14

All Clay – All Afternoon! For children ages 7 – 9 and 10 – 14!  Creative and fun, yet also an intensive and structured study of hand building, wheel throwing, and glazing techniques. Make decorative and functional objects from animals, to masks, wind chimes, pots, vases, secret treasure boxes and much more!  Please bring your own apron or old shirt.  Please dress for messy fun!

Creative Arts Camp
Ages 7 - 8 and 9 - 13

Children ages 7-8, and 9-13 will participate in high energy mixed media art classes. Students will explore elements and principles of art while developing skills through self expression and experimentation. Students will venture into a variety of art mediums while creating fun and exciting projects through drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, and crafts, incorporating indoor and outdoor activities.  There will be one field trip per Session to Lake Michigan and other beautiful pleine air painting locations!

Teen Art Intensive
Ages  14 - 17

This class will cover art fundamentals in a workshop format, for the young adult w/a serious interest in art. We will start with line and culminate in painting.  Students will be introduced to drawing and painting using a variety of methods, including pen/ink, charcoal, pastels, and acrylic on canvas. They will learn how to paint w/ pencil, create tone charts, be introduced to figure drawing/anatomy using a full size skeleton, and color theory through the use of a complex color wheel.  A beginning understanding of realism vs. abstraction will be gained through projects based on the work of great artists from the past and the present.     TAC Instructor: Roberta Miles.

Summer on Stage: Improv Playhouse Music Theatre Camps

      This IP Performing Arts Day Camp is for children who love to sing, act dance! Summer On Stage will provide you and your friends with a great opportunity to develop "triple threat" skills including learning some of the best of Broadway or original music. Our professional theatre artists and counselors will take you to a Chicago area production, strolls to downtown HP for treats, and rehearse an original musical theatre showcase from audition to performance topping off the perfect summer.

Improv Camp

      Improv and comedy summer fun! Improv Camp creates a sense of play through the theatre games made famous by the TV show "Whose Line is it Anyway?" and will build up each child's self-concept, poise, stage presence, outward focus and commitment to their comedy/performance team. The final showcase will have you roaring with laughter!
Session 1: June 14 - June 25 / Session 2: June 28 - July 9 / Session 3: July 12 - July 23 / Session 4: July 26 - August 6

Puppet Pals

All campers will have terrific fun as they create their own puppet characters out of developmentally appropriate media. They will present a production at the end of each session.
